While the park is not directly on a metro line, the Piramide (Metro B) station serves as the essential transfer point for the Metromare suburban train. Treat this leg as the first step of your train journey—take the Metro B line to Piramide and then switch platforms right next door at the Porta San Paolo station to catch the dedicated Ostia-bound commuter train.

For maximum flexibility, driving is an option, as the site is approximately 19 miles (30 km) southwest of Rome's city center. The route, often via the Via del Mare or Via Cristoforo Colombo, takes about 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. Limited free parking is available right in front of the main entrance, but we recommend arriving early to secure a spot, especially on weekends.

This is the easiest and most efficient method. Take the Metromare suburban train (formerly Roma-Lido) from the Porta San Paolo station, which is seamlessly connected to the Piramide Metro B stop. The journey is quick, taking only about 30 minutes, and is covered by a standard Rome public transport ticket (like the €1.50 BIT or a day pass). Exit at the Ostia Antica station and follow the signs across the pedestrian bridge for a short walk to the entrance.

While not the fastest route, there are bus services operated by ATAC that connect Rome to the Ostia Antica area. These routes generally involve longer travel times and potential transfers compared to the dedicated commuter train. If you choose this method, be sure to check the latest route and schedule information, as bus stops are typically a short walk from the archaeological park entrance.

The path to Ostia Antica is highly accessible for cyclists. You can take your bicycle on the Metromare train (adhering to public transport rules) or cycle the entire distance from Rome. The surrounding area features flat terrain and local routes, making it a good option for an active, scenic day trip. Once you arrive, there are pedestrian-friendly paths leading to the park entrance.

Walking from Rome's city center to Ostia Antica (roughly 25-30 km) is not recommended due to the distance, busy roads, and lack of continuous dedicated pedestrian paths. However, once you arrive at the Ostia Antica train station, the walk to the archaeological site entrance is a brief, well-signed, and pleasant 5-10 minute stroll across the overpass.
