How long do you need, and when should you start?

Both catacombs run on timed guided visits, so the time that matters is the start of your tour.

At Domitilla, the last group of each session goes down 20 minutes before closing, and you can't join once it has left. At Saints Marcellinus and Peter, plan on about 45 minutes underground, plus extra time if you want to see the mausoleum.

Seeing both sites in one day means two bookings on opposite sides of Rome. Avoid Tuesdays (Domitilla) and Thursdays (Marcellinus and Peter), and leave plenty of travel time in between.
